After completing what I shall (hopefully) bill as the worst boiler build in the history of modular boiler scaffolds, I am faced with a couple of questions. #1 What happened to the sense of urgency, hunger and pride in our work? #2 When did the trades decide that working hard for12 hours a day was just too much to ask? I am completely floored by the lack of aggressiveness in the workforce that showed up to this project. There just seemed… Continue

On the eve of starting to stage our first boiler of the season I have had to do what most sales reps. do when the work starts....go on vacation. Just kidding but I am going on vacation. I have had to review my bid, break it down one way then another, then yet another. Reverse engineering percentages is tricky. As i have reviewed it time and time again I can see why our clients wince in pain ever time the get a scaffold bill. This stuff aint cheap, when were done there isn't anything left except…

Well folks it has been a wild couple of weeks but have finally settled down to ask myself a few questions.#1 Am I truly a minimalist like i claim to be? Being in several industries where everything is temporary I have always considered myself a minimalist, the fewest part and pieces to get the job done right. Right? Well I am thinking that I have re-evaluated that…

This is part 2 of I don't really know how many parts as I search to define the answers to the questions I get asked constantly. Todays topic will be manufacturer guidelines. I think this is probably the most overlooked items on the internet, in the local branch offices and on the back shelf under that book about how to sell stuff on e-bay. The manufacturers guidelines, also called Safety Rules, Technical manuals and or other literature about the specific system you are using I would be willing…

Holy schnikes, when did it get so cold in May? This feels more like March than May. Hope it is warmer where you are.
I have been really busy out in the field hang out with my own crews and enjoying it throughly. I always enjoy times when the world doesn't exist on the math of our industry. I still struggle with turning a scaffold into a mathematical equation.
I will post more alter but please take a minute and welcome the new members. We have one from Scotland and another from…

In this wonderful world of Facebook, My Space and other networking sites I have found someone who shares our vision for a networking site for us scaffold types. Please check out the site at www.SCAFFOLDDAWGS.com. They have some cool merchandise and he seems to be a head of me in that area. I am hoping that we can use the iron sharpens iron philosophy to help each other out. Please check out the site and let me know what you think. Check… Continue

Without sound like a total pompous arrogant jerk there is a certain sense of nobility in what we do. Ours is never the finished product, or the desired end result but there are quite a few major things that would not be the same without dedicated individuals who are willing to do the tough stuff that unless someone took a picture of it most people probably won't remember. Oil refineries and ethanol plants would be different, power would have to be generated by steam from small… Continue

When posting jobs on the "Events-Jobs " tab please watch the start and end dates you put in. They should be the day it is posted and either 90 days from post date or the day the job ends. This will keep the jobs page from getting too muddy.
Also I am about to begin a mass mailing campaign along with some other measures to get some of the employers to notice that this is a good place to post jobs where actual scaffold builders will see them. So please tell everyone you… Continue

Greetings and salutations. Hope everyone in DC and the surrounding states are working inside. Keep warm out there, you too Canadian members.
I have made a few changes like adding "Jobs" to the event tab. Anyone who knows of scaffold work should please post in there for now unless it gets moved later. As you may have noticed I am still working out all of the glitches and bugs in this thing as I tweak it to work out to be as simple as possible. This isn't a corporation yet so… Continue

Hello fellow ScaffoldBuilders I received this message from a new member and thought I would share it in case any of the rest of you are looking, or know someone who is looking for work. Mr. DeBerg sent me this explanation of shop tools, very difinitive and helpful:
DRILL PRESS:
A tall upright machine useful for suddenly snatching flat
metal bar stock out of your hands so that it smacks you in
the chest and flings your beer across the room, denting the
freshly-painted project which you had carefully set in the
corner where nothing could get to it.
WIRE WHEEL:
Cleans paint off bolts and then throws them somewhere under
the…
